Today the Turkish Consulate General based in Sydney Australia hosted a memorial service in honour of the former Turkish Consulate General Mr Sharik Ariyak and his bodyguard Ateshe Engin Sever who were assassinated on 17 December 1980 ( 38 years ago by two gunmen from an Armenian terrorist organisation.
The South Azerbaijan Democratic Turkic Unity ( GADTB ) & Australian Azerbaijanian Association representative attended this event and make the following statement:
Today we express the unified sorrow felt by the wider Turkic community in regards to the assassination of the Turkish Consulate General Mr Sharik Ariak and his bodyguard Ateshe Engin Sever.
We condemn the Armenian terrorist organisations who were involved in this act of terror. We believe that the organisation responsible are the same who have committed crimes against humanity against the Azerbaijanians at Khojali in 1993. Unfortunately the terrorists responsible have not been charged with this crime and we believe it is important for the safety and security of the Australian people that the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation continues investigating this matter with the view of bringing justice to this act of terrorism.
It is unacceptable that the Armenian gunmen brought their concerns from the other side of the world and committed acts of terror on Australian land. They risked the safety of the Australian community to terrorise Turkish diplomats and the Australian community.
I send my deepest condolences to the families of Mr Ariyak and Mr Sever and the Turkish Australian community.
I hope justice is brought to this matter.
With best regards
